Pregnancy Evaluation
Our team uses a portable ultrasound to assess the state of pregnancy in each female. Using ultrasound allows us to not only detect pregnancy but often to give a relatively specific age of the fetus. This allows you to either cull open cows or to return them to a breeding program. We also offer use of our portable hydraulic chute making pregnancy evaluation safer for us and for the cow.
Semen Evaluation
Getting your cows pregnant is the cornerstone of a cow calf operation. Evaluating the semen of your bulls allows us to determine whether or not he can produce the conception rates you need. Abnormalities in the structure of individual sperm are counted; 70% normal sperm is considered adequate for breeding. Bulls are also visually inspected for other physical abnormalities that may interfere with breeding.
Nutrition Consulting and Feed Testing
We are in a drought. How many years, I think I have lost count. The grass has taken a beating and forages have almost have stopped growing. As we all look to alternative feeds for our cattle we need to understand the limitations of each feed and find a balance with the grains supplemented. Testing the feed and water quality is more necessary now than ever before. We will also work with you to find the best supplements and feed additives to help get your cows through this next prairie winter with a decent body condition for breeding season.
